BROCKTON — Mystery surrounds the death of a man whose charred and naked corpse was discovered in woods Friday behind an East Side strip mall.
Brockton police were called by a walker who made the grisly find in a secluded wooded area next to the vacant Maple Alley building on Crescent Street at 3:21 p.m.
“I have no idea who he is. He wasn't on fire when I found him but he was burned. He had no clothes on,” the walker told The Enterprise but did not want to give his name.

People in the area said tents were pitched in the wooded area and it's a popular haunt for homeless people.
The woods are next to the 508 Club and the vacant Maple Alley bowling alley behind the strip mall on Crescent Street, which is Route 27.

Charred body found in Brockton
BROCKTON, Mass. -- Brockton police are investigating the discovery of a burned body.
A homeless man found the victim Friday afternoon at 700 Crescent St.
Firefighters said charred bodies of homeless people have turned up before around this location.
The victim is a man between 20- and 30-years-old.
Police are not sure how long the body has been there, but it looks like it was dumped.
They think it could have been burned somewhere else, because there's little fire damage to the area the body was found.
