BROCKTON — City leaders are closely watching changes at an under-20 club amid ties between the club and a man facing child rape charges.
David Jemmott has recently promoted a “gospel night club” at Club 508 at 686 Crescent St. and told police a month ago he was the manager when detectives visited there, police said.
“He's not supposed to be there running the place,” Mayor James E. Harrington said Tuesday.
Jemmott, then 51, was indicted in December 2005 and arraigned in Brockton Superior Court on Feb. 1, 2006, on one count of statu tory rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older, Plymouth County Assistant District Attor ney Bridget Norton Middleton said.
The victim was 14 at the time of the alleged assault.
Jemmott pleaded innocent at the arraignment, Middleton said.
A trial date is expected to be scheduled Thursday.
