MARSHFIELD, Mass. -- Officials are keeping a close eye on the waters at a Marshfield beach after a weekend shark sighting.
Swimmers were ordered out of the water at Rexhame Beach for about an hour Saturday when the shark, estimated to be about 15 feet in length, was spotted about 20 feet from shore.
One beachgoer said you could see the dark shape in the water and the fins come up.
Harbormaster Michael DiMeo believes the creature was probably a large basking shark that feeds on plankton and is usually harmless to humans.
No other sightings have occurred since Saturday and the beach is again open for swimming.
