BOSTON --
It's official: Tolls are going up on the Massachusetts Turnpike.
The turnpike board has voted to raise tolls for passenger cars at
the Allston-Brighton and Weston interchanges by 25 cents to $1.25.
Also,
one-way tolls for cars in the Ted Williams and Sumner tunnels
will rise 50 cents to $3.50. The hikes take effect in January.
The increases apply to Fast Lane users as well. The vote was 3-2.
All five board members previously voted for a toll increase, but Romney
appointees Mary Connaughton and Judy Pagliuca were pushing for a toll-hike
plan that would have spared many MetroWest commuters from an increase.
They voted against the final plan.
