BROCKTON— A well-known social service agency for survivors of violence has filed for bankruptcy amid a debt of more than $600,000 in unpaid payroll taxes.
Brockton Family and Community Resources Inc. of 9 Belmont St. sought relief under Chapter 11 bankruptcy to give itself time to reorganize, according to the agency's executive director, Patricia Kelleher.
“While providing services, paying approximately 50 employees and otherwise operating daily, the agency fell seriously behind in paying its payroll taxes,” Kelleher said in a prepared statement.
The agency failed to pay its employee payroll taxes to the IRS for 2004, 2005 and part of 2006, according to the statement.
