Brockton school closings mulled
By Maria Papadopoulos, Enterprise staff writer
BROCKTON— A task force is eyeing more reorganization of city schools, including possibly closing some schools and converting elementary schools into middle schools.
The District Wide School Reconfiguration Task Force is looking at possibly closing the Gilmore Academy and the Franklin and Whitman elementary schools, said Ward 6 School Committee member James Daley, co-chairman of the task force.

The 21-member task force began meeting in November to discuss reconfiguring city schools, a process which began in 2004 when Superintendent Basan Nembirkow came on board as superintendent.
“This is probably the most significant thing that's being done in Brockton because it's going to affect everyone,” Nembirkow said of the reorganization.

The task force meets weekly. The next meeting is tonight at 6:30 at the Crosby Administration Building, 43 Crescent St.
