Fire crews were first called around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday to the Macedonia Church of God in Christ at 215 Tinkham Road.
Bishop Bryant Robinson Jr. told 22News the church was one year into construction and was expected to open in the spring of 2009.
Leger estimated about $2.5 million in damage to the church. He said the Arson & Bomb Squad is investigating the cause of the fire.

On local news, the bishop of this black church was interviewed and believes that it may have been related to the Obama win. The fire erupted several hours after Obama was elected, and arson is suspected.
