Timilty Agrees To $8,000 Fine

BOSTON --

Governor's Councilor Kelly Timilty has agreed to pay an $8,000 fine to settle a complaint that her campaign created a flier that included Gov. Deval Patrick's endorsement without his consent.

Attorney General Martha Coakley said Monday that Timilty also agreed to stringent controls governing the use of endorsements.

Timilty already apologized to Patrick for what her campaign called a "terrible" mistake in mailing a flier that included what appeared to be a letter from Patrick supporting Timilty. The flier included a reproduction of Patrick's signature from another document.

Coakley said the mailing violated the state's campaign laws and ran the risk of misleading voters.
