The governor, who made global warming and environmental issues a central platform of his candidacy, received praise on 11 fronts, ranging from land conservation to protecting children from lead in jewelry. He received poor marks on three, largely because of budget cuts in those areas, and mixed marks in four, including parks funding.
The scores were recorded as plus signs, which meant good work, and minus signs, indicating more work to be done, rather than as letter grades.
"The governor has made remarkable strides to protect the environment, but there's more work to be done," said Lora Wondolowski, executive director of the League of Environmental Voters, a four-year-old nonpartisan environmental organization that keeps track of how state lawmakers vote on environmental issues.
