1. It would be an election not an appointment.

The state leg changed that rule so Romney wouldn't appoint himself Senator. As I Democrat, I don't want them to change the law in the event Deval isn't re-elected (this looks pretty likely at this point).

I would love to see Barney Frank in the Senate, but the odds are he can get more done in Congress given his chairmanships.

I think Deval should appoint Mike Dukakis or Ray Flynn as interim senator.

2. Ed Markey

He's the dean of the Mass delegation. Pushed the energy and environment bill through. Gets a 100% rating from environmental groups.

He's my #1 choice, anyway. :shrug:

3. I can't say who Ted would want but my wish would be Bill Delahunt

He doesn't have the fame of people like Meehan or another Kennedy family member, but there has been NOONE more out there all the time on C-Span night after night, working for the anti-war, anti-occupation movement before and after the invasion 2003.

He's just all together maybe the best congressman in the house when it comes to the reality of foreign relations, including what's going on in Colombia with the drug war.

5. This is a tough call. Of course, everyone wants the best for the

appointment but keep in mind that if Patrick does amend to allow someone to fill Ted's spot, as it stands now, that person will not be able to run in the election.

Does make you wonder what is the best solution. We need the best person for the job now but would have to lose that person later. Can't blame any of the qualified folks if they say no-go on an interim spot. This is really a damned if you do situation.

no one has to give up their seat to run
