BOSTON -- Massachusetts U.S. Rep. John Tierney is the latest in a line of Bay State politicians to say he is not running for the U.S. Senate seat recently left vacant by the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy.

1. Scott Brown is running for the GOP, and Lynch has not ruled it out yet.

(Hopefully, he does very soon).

(also a selectman from Canton is considering running for the GOP, but I had never heard of him before and expect that Brown will win this one easily).

Coakley and Capuano. I guess I will have to research where they stand on the issues. My feeling is Capuano is closer to where I stand, but what I read about him leave me with a bad feeling (not sure why,probably the feeling he is close to the Boston machine, but I would be happy to be shown wrong about this).

2. Lynch? Could any half-way educated person vote for him?

Other than from blood relatives, I don't see Lynch as getting many votes.

He has ridden to coat-tails all the way, from state Representative, to state Senator, to the US Congress seat of Joe Moakley,

Can we say "ambulance chaser"? Look at the rather UNimpressive list of legislation he's "sponsored" or co-sponsored.

So we're stuck with Coakley and Capuano? I'm not wild about Martha and don't know much about Capuano. I swear, the potentials are dropping like flies.

4. Capuano is a great candidate and a true progressive

he voted against the 2002 Iraq Resolution for starters, which is something it would be nice for Teddy's successor to have in common with him.
