I canceled home delivery of the Boston Globe a few days ago.
After 45 years, I find that I can no longer afford delivery. I wonder how many others have done the same? The price for home delivery is now almost $50.00 a month and I find that it is no longer possible for me to pay for it. Being laid off teaches you quickly to cut back on so much that used to be taken for granted.

I will go to the store and buy the Sunday paper only. There are sometimes coupons available that will offset the $3.50 cost and I pass the paper on to a relative.

The paper has been a part of my life for so long and I will miss reading it with my coffee each AM. For the past few weeks, I have been trying to teach myself to get the news on line. It is not the same but I have no choice.

I can see why print news is going the way of the dinosaurs, especially if delivery takes a big bite of your Social Security or Unemployment check.

Maybe when I find a job or win the lottery, I will subscribe again.

Sorry Boston Globe. It is not the content, it is the cost.

1. Did you communicate your feelings to the Boston Globe? BTW, you can get Sunday only home
home delivery so you dwn't have to brave the weather early in the morning in order to read the paper with Sunday breakfast. Try calling the Globe's customer service. And, if you or anyone in your home is a Senior, you, he or she can order it at a Senior discount, which is probably not available at the newsstand.

You may also try comparison shopping. This website claims four different costs for Globe subscriptions. http://www.subscription.com/boston-globe/?path=sus-bsgy-gls-100a1a Don't know if I'd trust this website. If you call the Globe, you might check it out with them.

2. Same here
Too expensive. Also, a few years back they made the font smaller making it an eye strain to read, especially when they italicize the words. I buy the Sunday Globe occasionally, but delivery is out.

3. I have two major newspapers out where I live, but it's not the cost
The problem is that they can't find anyone willing to deliver to my rural location, and I don't want to have to travel two miles out to the main road to pick it up from a drop off box.

so we haven't gotten home delivery here for years after the last delivery guy who was willing to come here quit for medical reasons.

It's easy enough to get the news online anyway. The only paper we get is the Sunday one each week when we go into town for breakfast. After a while you sorta get used to it.

4. I stopped reading the paper version of the Globe a long time ago.
Here's a link that will keep you busy reading newspapers from all over the place --> http://www.world-newspapers.com/
