State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill lost another top political aide today when his campaign manager resigned.
The departure of Adam Meldrum comes a day after another senior adviser announced he was parting ways with the campaign, saying Cahill couldn't win.
Meldrum had worked with the Republican political consultants whom Cahill tapped this year to advise him in his independent bid for governor. One of those consultants, John Weaver, resigned from Cahill's team late Thursday, suggesting that the independent candidate could not win the race for governor and that his continued presence in the contest would help Governor Deval Patrick get re-elected.
Meldrum, 27, of Michigan, had worked for Strategic National in Michigan, founded by political consultant John Yob, and both worked on US Senator John McCain's 2008 bid for president. Yob brought in Weaver, a fellow McCain consultant. Meldrum had also previously worked for the Republican Governors Association and for the state Republican party in Michigan.
Cahill chief of staff Amy Birmingham confirmed that Meldrum is leaving, saying in a statement that he "was brought in to this campaign by John Weaver, and he will leave with John Weaver."
