New Massachusetts Texting Law

"AAA members, we’d like to remind you that as of Thursday, September 30, it will be against the law for anyone to type, read or send a text message while driving in Massachusetts.

Motorists also cannot access the Internet in their cars from any mobile device. And sixteen and seventeen year olds cannot talk on cell phones at all when they drive – only in the event of an emergency.

The texting ban is good news for Massachusetts motorists. Thanks to the new law, we’ll all be safer on the roads, because distracted driving is dangerous. So remember, don’t text and drive - it’s the law."

1. I am too old to learn how to use a mobile phone to do texting.

I think we should make a law that says you have to have a driver's license for 10 years before you can have a mobile phone.

It's just not fair!!!!! I had to drive a stick shift car before I could get my license. Today there's kids who don't know what "stick shift" means!!!!! Do you??

Then there's having computers in police cars.... back when I was a kid it was only one in 3 police cars that could go 90MPH!!!

Now they can see stuff on computers when they pull you over? The insurance company can verify how many miles a year you drive by checking your computer recorded inspection report? You can crash your car and some voice comes on and tells you they are sending an ambulance? Driving is getting too too easy, in my opinion, and having a mobile phone is just silly if you don't have a full time job yet.

3. Stick shifts....

Sometimes I think I'd love to see people try to text or talk on hand held cellphones while driving a stick shift.


Then other times I get scared thinking of how many people would give more attention to their phones than shifting gears.


I guess I just have a different mindset than a lot of the kids today. If someone calls my house and I'm out of reach of the phone, I don't risk breaking a leg trying to get the phone before the answering machine does. If it's important, they'll leave a message, call back, or email me.


Same with cellphones and texting, or even emails. I don't have this overwhelming need to read or reply INSTANTLY.
