MIDDLEBORO —
Middleboro's polls have been jam-packed all day, with nearly half the town's registered voters turning out by 6 p.m.
Just two hours before the polls were set to close, about 7,200 voters had turned out -- approximately 45 percent of the 15,683 registered voters in town.
Town Clerk Eileen S. Gates is expecting the next few hours to be active, saying today was one of the busiest elections she can remember. Late this afternoon Gates distributed almost 2,500 more ballots to several precincts that were experiencing high volumes.

One minor mishap came up when a voter who had already completed his ballot complained that the officer on state-mandated poll detail at the Council on Aging was standing too close.
The man went to Gates' office, saying he felt intimidated but voted anyway.
