Dramatic rescue of MBTA worker from concrete trap
BOSTON —
Boston firefighters rescued an MBTA employee who fell 35 feet into a hollow concrete column supporting the Red Line train tracks at the Charles Street station near Massachusetts General Hospital.
The man fell at about 4:30 a.m. and firefighters managed to pull him out of the concrete trap at 7 a.m. The man, who was described as being in his mid-40s, was conscious and is believed to have broken both legs.
Red Line riders were being told to expect to add 45 to 60 minutes to their ride Wednesday morning. Train service was suspended between the Kendall and Broadway stations and shuttle buses were put in to service.
