Homeland security training drills are scheduled to start today at the east end of the Cape Cod Canal.
The Massachusetts National Guard and several other agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Sandwich Emergency Management, FBI, FEMA Urban Search and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be working on the training over the next three days, officials told the Times recently.
The first two days are expected to involve a ship in the Sandwich Marina. Thursday's training is scheduled to move to the GenOn Canal Generating Plant, Sgt. Gary Mauk of the Massachusetts National Guard recently told the Times. There could be helicopters involved.
The drills will test the readiness of the various agencies for either manmade or natural disasters that might affect homeland security, Mauk said.
