| Republican response to veterans' needs |

"Minnesotans may now buy "Support Our Troops" license plates to show their backing of U.S. military personnel and provide financial help to military families and veterans... Half the money will go to the state Military Affairs Department, which will distribute it to needy families of active-duty Minnesota soldiers and sailors through the Minnesota Military Family Foundation. The other half will be distributed through the state Veterans Affairs Department to outreach programs, service organizations and rehabilitation programs for veterans."
It's pretty sad when you have to hold the equivalent of a bake sale to raise money for veterans that the government should be providing. But then, when Republicans have been slashing veterans programs along with everything else, I guess you do what you gotta do.
It's probably in the nick of time, though. When those 2,600 Minnesotans gets shipped over to Iraq next year in the state's largest deployment since World War II, the body bags are going to be returning to the Northland in ever greater numbers.
