Urban touchdowns and a stubborn jet stream only partly explain unusually high death tolls.

Global warming has been taking blame. Some of the variables behind the tornado outbreak -- such as the unusual springtime warmth of the Gulf of Mexico -- are considered to be directly tied to global warming. But other key connections to a warming atmosphere are missing, making the interactions that have produced the storms more difficult to decipher.

The simplest and perhaps least satisfying explanation -- random chance.

Usually when my kids behaved like this I ended the discussion by saying "Because I said so". Most kids grow up and develop some listening, comprehension skills but today's reporters, in my opinion, appear to be stuck at 4th grade comprehension. levels.
Our family example of this was my younger cousin who in 4th grade would not believe that chickens were not baby turkeys and was prepared to stand her ground against the encyclopedia's information.

I saw the headline this morning at the grocery store.
I thought it was the "Weekly World News"! But they're defunct...just the Strib. How far they have fallen.

Best part was it looked very sinister...white text on black background.

7. On tonight's 10 o'clock news (WCCO)

Mike Fairbourne said he didn't know if there was enough evidence to really connect all the tornados and climate change (though I believe he used the term "global warming") - his tone seemed to "pooh-pooh" the whole idea.

If I'm not mistaken, Fairbourne has always been a conservative. Many years ago he got himself in some trouble for getting active with the anti-choice crowd. At the time 'CCO did not consider it appropriate for someone who was on its newscasts to become active in such a controversial cause - even if all he did was read the the weather reports.

I think he got unwanted PR a few years ago because he was outed on a list of "scientists" who denied climate change. Of course, he degenerated into babbling about "squishy science" and GOP talking points. And the list turned out not to be scientists, really. Can't remember if this was the same list that some real scientist names were on and they asked to be taken off because they hadn't signed it.
