Blunt's cuts hurt the poor (surprise!)
Gov. Matt Blunt's Medicaid cuts will mean thousands of Missourians, including children, will get no state-assisted health care.

Some examples:

• Training for people who want to be foster or adoptive parents will be reduced or eliminated as contracts with private agencies are shut off and state employees take over the job. The understaffed Social Services Department will be strained in providing enough workers to do this important task right.

• Child care subsidies to people who adopt foster children or become their guardians will be cut. With no help to make child care affordable, fewer people will adopt these needy children.

• Grandparents who provide foster care for their family members will lose monthly payment and support services. Many of these grandparents are on fixed incomes and cannot afford additional costs of foster parenting without state help. More children will be left in foster care with strangers.

• Inspectors who check on child care centers for compliance with health, safety and staffing regulations will be reduced. With fewer inspections, more centers will skate by with problems that could cause harm to children; more will have too few staff members to take care of too many children. This could also affect the timeliness of state checks of child care workers to make sure they do not have a history of criminal activity or child abuse.

• Youth treatment services will lose residential care and day treatment slots for older children who need counseling and therapy.

1. meet the morans: Gary & Vivian Ruckel,Blunt voters getting screwed
Medicaid cuts could carry a political cost, too

By KEVIN MURPHY

The Kansas City Star

GERSTER, Mo. — Gary Ruckel, like most rural Missourians, backed Matt Blunt for governor last fall and voted other Republicans into legislative seats.

Ruckel agreed with Blunt on issues such as gun control and gay marriage, but he was not considering a subject that hit much closer to home: medical care.

So when Blunt proposed cuts in Medicaid last month that could cost Ruckel and his wife, Vivian Ruckel, some services, the couple had second thoughts about backing Republicans.

....

These two fools had no problems with other people getting it in the rear, but when its them .... boo-fucking-hoo

3. Well
When all you care about is guns and gay marriage, you deserve what you get.

Maybe next time this couple will actually look at the whole package.

That's if they're around for the next time.

As for those who didn't vote for the Republican excrement, you have my heartfelt sympathies.

5. What were they expecting?

Ultimately I have sympathy for these people, though it's getting harder to find it. Caveat emptor, you know?

But I think the Thugs are handing us a golden opportunity for the future. That's the only good thing about this mess.

6. I believe you're right
We're going to have some rough, tough time ahead of us, but if these "people" keep on like they are it'll be a cold day in hell when missouri elects another reptile to the governorship and the only safe legislative seat will be from the rich piggie burbs.
They are handing us their heads on a golden platter.

4. Blunt
The Repukes also decimated the state's workers' compensation program. If you are injured on the job in Missouri, too fricking bad and good luck going through life disabled and on social security and medicaid.

I understand that gay marriage and guns grab headlines, but do Democratic candidates need to take some responsbility for failing to find a way to cut through the crap and talk real issues? Paging Dr. Dean!

7. Apparently quite a bit
He's as RW and fundie as you can get. Mebbe he thinks the orphans should be shipped to another state.

8. No.

If I remember correctly, he said they plan to put them up for adoption or put them into institutions. (Remember Newt's proposed orphanages?)

Of course, they seem to have forgotten that the reason those institutions went out of existence was due to high costs, lack of necessary individualized attention during childhood, and occasionally abuse.

9. And now today's news brings this....
By David A. Lieb
Associated Press

Jefferson City — State House members, who just last week voted to cut government health care for the poor, narrowly rejected a budget amendment Wednesday aimed at cutting their own health care program.

10. This is something that we need to make a point of
reminding the voters. Blunt does not live in a vaccuum. He has a lot of republican legislators who are helping to force this whole mess on the rest of us. They are connected at the hip and should all be kicked out together.

11. Yes,
I wonder if we have any provisions for recall in this state? I don't know if the deluded people who voted these hard-hearted snobs into office would ever reach that point, but I'd love to see it happen. If not, they should have their "can" full of this self righteous morality and be awake to the real issues in 2006 and 2008.

13. I started a thread in General Discussion Politics
today, but it sunk pretty quickly. Maybe you can have better luck posting it somewhere? What the legislature is doing is totally outrageous. They have no sense of shame whatsoever!
