How long has Cape May County been red?

I was stunned to see a map of New Jersey that had Cape May County colored red in this last election.

I always thought of that area to be made up of many transplants from liberal Philadelphia, I couldn't make heads nor tails out of it. That area (I thought) used to be so Democratic, they had their convention there in 1964. Man, what the heck happened since then?

I hope those folks come around to reality and turn blue.

Rev. Carl MacIntyre and his ultra-fundamentalist sect settled there in the late 1960s and have dominated the place ever since.
