| Corzine question here from out-of -stater. |
|
I'm an Illini with a question about Corzine. Why is he leaving the Senate to be a Governor?

| 1. He's got more experience as an executive. |
|

He did some great things at Goldman Sachs as a CEO before he ran for the Senate.
Plus, it's a better platform to run for president as the last senator to win was JFK.
Thanks for asking.

| 2. I have a bro-in-law at Goldman Sachs and he told me some stuff. |
|
He said that Sen. Corzine was a great CEO, so I guess it makes sense. The way my bro-in-law talks, there are a lot of libs at GS. He's one himself, and he's pretty high up on the food chain there. Thanks for the info! Good Luck on his election!

Sheesh.. I like the guy. But, it is my impression that he isn't even that lauded in his own home state right? I dunno, I just think that he wouldn't have national appeal.
Right or wrong?

| 6. well, he is an upwardly mobile kind of guy |
|
I think there are better candidates, but if he wants to run for a higher office, he's got a better shot as Governor than as Senator.
This is just my opinion, he hasn't officially expressed interest in running for President to my knowledge.

He likes to run things so being a governor is more appealing. Also, if he chose to run for president, being a governor is a "selling point" as more governors than senators become president, I've been told.

| 15. I like him quite a bit (I'm from NJ) |
|
I'll be voting for him for gov. Regarding Pres, ask me in 4 years after I see what kind of gov he turned out to me. He may be pretty good.
(In NJ, we don't gush, so pretty good is pretty high praise, btw)

for the garden state in Trenton then in the Senate. At heart he is an executive not a legislator. We have many capable Democrats who can carry on in the Senate.

I've heard buzz about Keane Jr being very competitive.

That's why I am hoping Corzine will appoint Codey to his Senate seat. Codey has a lot of good will with the voters of NJ for cleaning up the McGreevy mess and generally being just an unassuming, regular type of guy. Nothing fancy about him. He just says what he believes and then acts on it, something pretty rare in pols these days.

|
At this stage in the game, we can't have Republicans holding Senate seats in solidly blue states such as NJ. There are enough "Alabama's" in the world. :eyes:

| 9. I don't think Corzine would appoint anyone simply as a caretaker |
|
It would be the guy they want to run in 2006. The opponent is likely to be the son of former Gov Tom Kean, a state assemblyman who already has statewide name recognition due to his family name. Tom Kean was maybe the most popular gov in NJ history.

should Corzine win. New Jerseyans like their politicians low-key and not in the headlines. Someone like Hillary Clinton would never win here.

in a Senate race. The Republicans are grooming Tom Kean Jr. and Attorney General Chris Christie for Senate runs. The former has a marketable name, the latter, a marketable track record.

| 13. Honestly, I don't think people in north jersey even know Andrews exists |
|
Same with Holt or any of the others mentioned except for Codey. I really fear losing this Senate seat and would have been much happier with Corzine seeking reelection to the Senate and Codey running for governor.
Don't get me wrong. I think Corzine will be a good governor. But I also think it could very well cost us a seat in the Senate.

| 14. We can't lose another seat. I really have faith in Andrews, but |
|
if name recognition is a problem, then that is a problem. When you are in the area (SJ, or whatever), the media focuses in on your Representatives, which they did, with him. It is hard to know the mid-north Jersey coverage.

| 18. Great idea about Codey! But WE have to spread education to the South, |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 11:03 PM by I_Make_Mistakes
that is how the Repub's control the South, they use their intellect and do not support education, (keep them ignorant and they will vote for us!).
Educated people, with the conscience of the Lord, could never vote the Repub's new ME, ME MEME! That's how I got to the Dem's and more are a coming!
Thank you for posting his acceptance speech! I listened and so will other's.
