Carol Gay receives Union Endorsement from IUC.
May 11, 2006
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Political juices are being stirred in the labor movement of New Jersey. A true trade unionist is running for Congress against a moderate Republican who has had labor’s backing in the past, including that of the New Jersey Industrial Union Council (IUC). Carol Gay is running against Chris Smith in the Fourth Congressional District. The IUC has endorsed Carol Gay. She is one of our Executive Officers.
For the IUC it was an easy choice, but some trade union leaders are wringing their hands in an effort to get Carol to withdraw. I can’t possibly think of why a trade unionist would be worried about this race. If Smith wins you have the status quo, if Gay wins you have a true leader of the New Jersey Trade Union movement as a member of the congressional delegation challenging the Bush Agenda. The labor movement and New Jersey working men and women can’t lose. Unless you think a challenge by a bona fide candidate would turn Smith into a Scott Garrett or a Tom DeLay. I doubt that. Chris Smith is a decent guy, he just has to vote for the Bush Agenda or the Republicans would do him in. Those of you who know Carol can only wait in anticipation to watch her on the floor of the House of Representatives. There will be no Bush vote from her. There will also be no corporate vote. There will only be votes cast in the spirit of social justice and total equality and freedom for everyone in America. For those of you who may not know Carol let me give you some facts about this remarkable woman.
