| Any NJ Appearances for Kerry or Edwards? |
|
The 2000 race pretty much passed us by. There wasn't even that much advertising with NY & NJ in the Gore column.
Looks to be the same this time. Except for a blow-through fundraiser or two, I don't hold much hope for seeing our ticket at any public events here in NJ.
It's been a long time since I've seen a live candidate here. I got to shake John Anderson's (remember him, only 24 yrs ago!) hand in 1980 and Reagan came to Hackensack during his reelection campaign, though I didn't go see him since he made me rather ill. I did walk through the park where his helicopter was due to land in a few hours and got chased away. My 2 seconds of fame.
I know time in NJ probably isn't well-spent, but it would be nice to attend a Kerry/Edwards rally without traveling to the Midwest.

| 1. Both Clinton and Bush41 came to NJ during the '92 campaign . . . |
|
. . . and Gore was here in 2000 (remember the much-ballyhooed traffic jam near Newark Airport?).
I agree -- it would be nice to attend a K/E event here in the Garden State.

| 2. one thing Kerry could highlight here... |
|
Kerry could come here and make an argument for gay marriage that even conservatives would find persuasive: If gay marriage was legal and gays could marry among themselves, Gov. McGreevey's two wives would be spared much pain -- and so would many other straight women that end up in unhappy marriages to closeted gay men. So gay marriage wouldn't just help gays -- it would be very good for straight women also.

| 4. A chance to meet John Edwards in NJ! |
|
Dear Team,
I have exciting news from the campaign! John Edwards is coming to New Jersey on September 28 -- and one of you could have the chance to attend his event and meet him for free!
Senator Edwards will be headlining a $1,000-a-plate fund-raiser and will be joined by most of New Jersey's top politicians. It's going to be an exciting event -- with news from the campaign trail, maybe a little handicapping of the Kerry-Bush debate that will then be two days away, and lots of other great stuff. It will be a chance to meet and chat with some of our state's great Democratic leaders, past and present.
The campaign is recognizing you -- its corps of volunteers -- by offering one free ticket to this event to each Meetup. Here are the "rules of the game":
· To be eligible for the ticket drawing, your must have signed up to volunteer -- walking, phoning, or mailing -- for at least one night before September 23, and you must have actually done at least some of the time you signed up for. (For example, even if you "sign up" now for October time, you need to have spent at least one night or weekend afternoon in early to mid-September doing volunteer work.)
· For every additional two days/nights of volunteering you actually do by September 23, you'll get another chance to win the prize.
· The drawing will take place at our next Meetup.
This is a great opportunity to meet America's next Vice President -- and a great reason to get out there are start pounding the pavement. (Or pounding the phone buttons!) If you signed up at our last Meetup, thank you. If you'd like to add your name to the volunteer list, just e-mail me what nights or weekend days you're available and whether you want to Walk/Phone/Mail and I'll make sure you're contacted.
Thanks again for all that you do!
