New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey announced today he is gay and he will resign in November as a lawsuit is being filed by his former homeland security adviser alleging sexual misconduct by the governor against him, ABC News has learned.

McGreevey, who is married, acknowledged he "engaged in an adult consensual affair with another man." He said he will resign effective Nov. 15.

Even as he made the announcement, a lawsuit is being filed this afternoon by the former adviser, Golan Cipel, in Mercer County, N.J., Court, three sources told ABC News.

Cipel is a poetry-writing former Israeli Defense Force soldier who, despite being a foreign national, was appointed by McGreevey to the homeland security post and subsequently was forced to resign the $100,000-a-year position.

only he has the image and political experience needed to survive the huge backlash this scandal will create in NJ.

But back in 2002 after the Torch dropped out people tried to get him to run and he quickly said no. It seems that he is out of elected politics but perhaps he could be encouraged to get back in. He would be a very strong candidate.

I read that Corzine wants to be Governor. Seems to me to be a step backwards but I guess you do have a lot more power running a state like NJ instead of being one of fifty.
