Thinking about moving to New Jersey

Looking around the southeastern area. Just because the housing is more reasonable. Any suggestions?

I am a former NY'er who screwed up by moving into the south.

1. Eastern PA, Monroe-Pike Counties?

Doesn't get much better than that. NJ? I think you might want to pass. I know I will be out of here as soon as I can. Northern NJ has been economically terraformed for the wealthy. Way too expensive.

2. Below Trenton, but out of range of Philly, housing can be a bit more

reasonable. The Southeastern part of the state doesn't have much, if any public transportation. I grew up and lived all over the state, except for far South NJ. The farthest south I lived was Bordentown (eastern side) and Belmar (at the shore). There's not that much in the SE part as far as I can tell, but prices may be the lower there.

Glassboro has a college so it may be more desirable. I don't know the name of the town where Stockton State College is.

I solved the whole problem of living in very expensive NJ by really going south...to Las Cruces, NM....Much better weather and really affordable housing.

Pomona, I believe.

Don't move to Ocean County, though. Getting very expensive, plus its a freeper haven, trust me, I've lived there all my life.

4. I love NJ, but . . .

It's true -- the northern areas are way too expensive these days.

I've had friends who've lived on the Jersey side of the Delaware near Philadelphia who found it affordable. I'm not sure of the specific communities, however.

5. Mercer County?

Moving to Mercer County in the spring from NC - any recommendations on places to live? Commuting to Philadephia for work.

7. As a mercer county resident...

I would say pick a town close to a train station, Hamilton, Princeton, West Windsor...all three are pretty pricey but they are nice towns and have great school systems. Also be prepared for traffic, just about anywhere you go in the county there are cars...everywhere. Not sure about what you are normally used to in NC but just about everywhere in NJ is a traffic headache

6. You're going to have to go way south if you're looking for cheaper

housing. If you are not looking to commute to NYC or Phillie you might try Cape May County, but stay away from the Wildwoods and Cape May City itself.

Up here in Bergen the home prices are astronomical.
