NYC: My polling place was pretty vacant. What kind of turn out did you see

5. Yeah I think people are pretty apathetic

I havent spoken with anyone who vehemently hates Bloomberg (except for some people on this board). At least, not tho people I know, most of who are libs or moderate dems. I think the reports have been beaten into us about how far out in front Bloomers is, so "why vote?"

You're right about the room being smaller than a hotel ... I often looked jealously at the tourists (they had more space in the city -- and better conditions -- than I did!).

Even bankers don't want to live in a city full of bankers. That's why they moved to NYC. But just this year I've had six friends move away because they either can't afford to sustain while creating or they've come to the conclusion that there's nothing much left here to be a part of. I was even toying with the idea of moving to NOLA before the whole Atlantis debacle.

18. My landlord in Brooklyn was a sleazebag. He would try to seduce me by

inviting me into the basement of his pizzaria to try his homemade wine. No thank you. The price was okay but the space was great. I'm in the LES now and the price, space and neighbors suck but I don't have to deal with trudging two miles home through snow, slush and ice in the wee hours of January mornings when the trains don't run. Last time I was in my old neighborhood we got chased by a junky who was shooting up between parked cars. He started screaming at us, following us and throwing things.

while working a day job, but I never had any time! It was ridiculous -- I absolutely lost my life and became a suit. It only took me a year to realize I can make art anywhere (which is what I have plenty of time to do here in L.A.).

But, when it looks like only tens of thousands voted for this election, I'm not really surprised at the outcome.

7. Lowest turnout ever

I have seen more people out for the primaries. I voted at 8am in Manhattan. Lines in 2001 were 30 people deep at a similar hour.

No lines for any of the machines, me and 2 other voters. Plus about 40 poll workers. This could be good for Ferrer -- Bloomberg's support is miles wide but only an inch deep.

I went at 5pm... still early for the evening crowd... maybe twenty people there. I call that a seriously low turn out. Anyone know if low turn out are good or bad for dems, or whether it means nothing at all (other than the obvious, this community is LAZY!?!)

23. It was a bit slower than usual in Washington Heights

I went in about 7:30 this morning, I didn't have to wait but when I came out there were half a dozen waiting for my district.

I was relieved to see the old machines! I guess they'll be gone soon enough.

Several of my acquaintances didn't vote. They have various reasons, but I think my friend Jon sums it up best: "What is there to vote for?" I would say they feel discouraged, marginalized and isolated these days.
