| Is anyone particularly happy with the results from the elections today? |
|
My main concern was the Wake district 2 board of education and unfortunately my candidate (Wanda Weeks Denning) lost. The winner was a well funded repuke (whose kids go to PRIVATE school). I figured this would happen - there were two Dems and they split the vote, but in the end I think money bags would have had more votes had you combined their votes.

I don't follow all the local stuff. Make that any of the local stuff.

Your vote often does make a REAL difference. Races are decided by less than 200 votes - probably 5 votes per precinct.
It pisses me off when people only pay attention to national races - your day to day life is more affected by city councils/ county commissioners/ stuff like that.

| 4. Given that I know nothing about any of the local people. |

My vote could have just as easily been for the wrong person. The only thing I know about local people is that their names show on the banners on the side of the road. What is sad is that people vote by whose name they see the most on the side of the road.

it is quite easy to take a little bit of time to educate oneself. Almost all candidates (at least serious ones) will have a website that you can visit and newspapers have information as well.
I always double-check the Independent (free lefty paper) just to see what they say.

The N&O said she may be a swing vote for the diversity issue in the school - later this week I am going to write her and let her know that she is there thanks to a lot of people who support the busing policy and that if she decides to go the other way, that she shouldn't expect such broad support from the community.
That guy in Wake 2 really pisses me off. He did have more than 50% that's why there isn't a runoff - you have to reach that threshold.
Raleigh City Council went the way I hoped for the most part - I wished that Anderson would have been able to squeak it out.
