| The stealing has started. |
|
This morning I got up to ride my bike and noticed all Kerry/Edwards signs in my neighborhood had been stolen. If it's not enough to steal an election, now they are stealing signs. Oh well, once a thief always a thief. They didn't take my Jason Stephens for Lawrence County Commissioner sign, who is a republican. I know, I know why would I have a repub sign in my yard? He is a friend of mine and I told him if he wanted a signed in my yard he was going to be right next to John Kerry.

who just moved to Medford, OR is disgusted at the 100's of signs stolen there. They just can't stand anything that doesn't mesh with their world view so they either try to squelch it or force their world view on others. How sad and childish of them. Anyway, my sister is getting her own yard sign to post on her apartment balcony. :)

report this to the police. Then write a letter to the editor (don't know about you, but the letters to the editor are about the only thing folks read in our paper) about how petty the other side is being. Take the high road. Quote the Constitution-you might even have something like this for your subject line: I thought Republicans respect the Constitution, but I was wrong.
It will give your local Repukes a black eye.

| 7. Definitely Report It To The Police |
|
This is theft, this is criminal trespassing, this is vandalism. Of all election years, this is not the year to chalk this kind of stuff up to the usual campaign hijinks.
The time to start being vigilant is now. If these people think they can get away with a few ripped off signs, that gives them license to do a lot more things before November.
DON'T let them get away with it.
I would also call your county Dem party or Kerry HQ to let them know what is happening. They can keep track and make an issue of this as well. A statement from your county Dem chairperson to the media will send a bigger message both to the public and to the local GOPers than a lone LTE would.

| 4. Sorry to say, but this has happened for a long time! |

It of course is much worse when there is such anger on both sides. I don't know what you can do about it, ecept to write a LTTE and maybe embarrass the thieves into not doing it again.
I suppose you could always spray something really disgusting on the stick and the back of the sign to make it such a disgusting job, no one would do it again. But then, someone always does have to take those signs down after the election, huh?

Then after placing in yard spray pepper spray or grease all over the edges of the signs, anyone stealing signs will get this irratating substance all over their hands and cars.

That's an excellent suggestion, mongo!
Also, something like "Good Neigbors Don't Steal" might be fun.
Of course, who are we kidding? They'd steal 'em anyway, but at least might feel a bit of remorse afterward. :D

ought to do the trick. Rig an trip wire alarm activated by rigorous movement that turns on sirens and bright lights, expose the MOFOs for who they are. On the spot.

that you can get at Radio Shack that can fasten to the back of the sign. This was in another DU thread about three weeks or so ago.
But for cripe's sake...really...how ridiculous is the climate we're in that we even have to talk about going to such measures to protect a five-buck piece of plastic????
