It's something Mrs. Catch22Dem and I have been kicking around since the election. He could be an attractive candidate. I know he's well liked in this VERY red state. Just to give you an idea, not ONE county in OK went for Kerry. Not one, yet our Governor is a Dem. Go figure.

| 15. It was because he was up against Steve Largent... |
|
And Steve couldn't keep his idiot mouth shut. My mother HATEs Brad Henry, but mainly because she hates teachers, and he's all about the teachers, but then again, his wife is a teacher, so it's understandable...I don't know about him running for president. He's not outgoing enough. He seems like an introvert pretending to be extrovert. Oh and this has nothing to do with anything, but his youngest daughter looks just like Melissa Gilbert when she was a little girl, only blonde. Mel

He was better than the alternative. He's not someone the left would generally support unless forced to do so, and he's sort of a wet blanket personally, real hard to get excited about. He's one of those people that has a sense of humor and fun, but it just doesn't come across well. Think Al Gore dancing.
On more substantive issues, I'm ambivalent about him. He doesn't do much, which given the current state of OK's economy and society is not exactly a bad thing. He's not pissing people off, which means he can do some things without a ton of resistance. Real improvement would require pissing a lot of people off, and in the end he'd be ineffectual because of it. He fulfilled his only real campaign promise, which was to work toward developing a state lottery in OK. This did finally pass on election day. I have no idea what he'll do now.
I thought David Walters (D) would run for President some day, that is until he was forced to appear in court and face charges against him as a sitting governor. Walters' problems were similar to Clinton's in miniature, that his he pissed of the GOP so much they would not rest until they found something to use against him. I also thought Keating (R) would capitalize on the OKC bombing and his GOP connections for a run in '00, but that never materialized, perhaps because of his connections to Bush. These were two fairly dynamic governors. Brad Henry is nothing by comparison ... a decent governor of OK, but not national material, IMO, mostly because he's so easy not to notice.
Then again, maybe that's what we need.

No personality. No real accomplishments. No support of other party candidates (why didn't he do more to help Brad Carson?). I'm not really sure he does anything at all. And he's kind of a mousy looking fellow to top it all off.

| 7. Like the one guy said, his big/only platform was getting the lottery. |
|
I was kinda surprised, though happy, when he won election. There are a heluva alot of very fundamentalist RW people here, and in the past the lottery always went down in flames thanks to the marching orders from the churches to the voters. I actually don't know much of what he's been doing except the lottery, which he has accomplished. It's still a wait and see about him as far as any higher office. It is remarkable that this is the same state that has brought you sen coburn.

I voted for him when I was still in OK, and was very happy to have him beat Largent, but he's not ready for prime time on the national scene.

| 9. Brad Henry for Pres in '08? |
|
I was lukewarm about him until Dr Phil recently admitted to having been a guest in his home and liking and trusting him. That makes me feel better about him and his ethics but he has no charisma... I doubt if anyone who didn't know him well would be at all interested. At least his appearance is ordinary and acceptable.
IMHO the only Dem I can see on the scene with the charisma to affect the unthinking voter(That's the majority, methinks) is Obama.
