| Lesbianism will become epidemic in Okalahoma if Dem gets into the Senate |
|
In the tape released on Monday by the campaign of Brad Carson, the Democratic candidate, Republican Tom Coburn's campaign has said that "lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in south-east Oklahoma that they'll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it. Think about that issue. How is it that that's happened to us?"
I guess Oklahoma is one state where Mary Cheney won't be called in to campaign for Republicans! :kick:

and believe me, there are people there who believe that you can "catch" being gay. It's that homosexual agenda you know, they're all trying to brainwash the kids into being gay. :eyes:
There are some VERY ignorant people in that State. I guess there are in every state, but Oklahoma, in my opinion, takes the cake.

I've often wondered why more comics don't come to OK for material. There's just so much of it.

Several years ago a certain town in SE Oklahoma was reported by Advocate as having the highest proportion of gays to straights of any similarly sized town in the nation. I don't remember how they determined this, but I thought it was interesting ... and it fit my perceptions as well. It seems I knew more openly gay people when I lived there than I do now living in OKC.
I seriously doubt that's what inspired Coburn, however. He probably started with the story that some extremely homophobic people in OK -- and there could be a particular case in SE OK that missed my radar -- are suggesting that public toilets are sinful because the open display of nudity and partial nudity among same-sex individuals encourages same-sex sexuality. It's complete idiocy, but pretty much par for the course around here.
Unfortunately, Coburn's comments will play well with a certain demographic. With another, it'll backfire, but not because it is absurd, rather because they'll interpret this as an "insult" on *their* little girl or boy who couldn't possibly be gay or know anyone who is gay.
