| Hooley, going to vote NO on CAFTA |
|
Just got a response letter. I'll tell ya I'm thrilled.
I believe this is the 1st "free traitor" agreement she is going to vote no on and she voted for the MBNA oops, I mean Bankruptcy, bill.
So, anyone else in her district, I think at least potentially some communication makes a difference, so keep writing those letters!

Folks, keep the calls and letters going.
Here we might be able to actually accomplish something.
And yes, I know that this isn't as sexy as some things. But a little effort here could mean a lot -- and a lot of effort elsewhere could mean nothing.
Besides, SCOTUS and Traitor-Gate will take some time to unravel.
We will (probably) win or lose on this real soon.

I think I'm more glad for you, it's exciting when you help make a difference. Did she say what ultimately made up her mind?

It sounds like she got hip more and less.
She mentions pushing for environmental and workers rights and mentions the use of Child labor, not a level playing field (that's no joke!)... but I'll bet the biggest thing is the fact unemployment in OR is 6.5% probably in her district part of it is higher... plus her district includes the now Benedict Arnold GE/HP plus the Willamette valley, huge farming area.
I don't have a clue why Ron Wyden would vote for this turkey but Hooley's conclusion is it doesn't support labor/environmental stds. Starts with how OR jobs are being offshore outsourced.
What a relief, but I'll tell ya I write personal letters targeting specific details in the "selling of" a bill and point out the lie. I also send the "canned stuff". Let's write more. :) I honestly wonder on some of these legislators if they have the resources to dig deep... I mean how can lobbyists get their ear so damn much with their propaganda (beyond big bucks for campaign contributions plus "perks")...and wonder if they are getting synopsis "studies" from these "think tanks" who produce complex and flawed (for the multinational agenda of course) reports and their staff doesn't dig deep enough to find the unbiased studies or the facts from Academia/everyday people.
I mean people, a lot of people, initially bought the "free trade mantra" hook line and sinker. It takes a lot of research to understand that those are not free trade agreements but special interest/multinational corporation screw job agreements.

I'm in her district & wish she was more left-leaning: I don't think she signed on to the Conyer's letter about the DSM, for example, at least the last time I checked.
