When should I receive my ballot?

My gf received hers yesterday. I updated my address about 6 weeks ago, I didn't get mine yet. All this voter purging in other states has me a bit concerned. Should I call on Monday or wait another couple days?

1. When you say that you updated your address,

did you re-register? Or did you notify the post office to forward your mail? It sounds to me like you're saying that you re-registered. I've heard that the office is getting slammed with new registers (yeah!) so they might be a bit behind.

If I was you & I hadn't got it by Wednesday, I would call.

2. I reregistered with Multnomah County 6 weeks ago....

Thanks... Interestingly, she never updated hers and received it here at our new address. I'll have to ask what shes registered as. I've heard on Thom Hartman that Dem voters in other states that have moved have been purged from the rolls even if its legit and normally wouldn't need to reregister. I've got a bit of voter paranoi going on.

I think I read they were mailing them on the 21-24.

the change of address form with the post office would be enough, I moved and they found me and mailed me a new card very nicely without any fuss. got my ballot the 24th. Give it 'till the 26th, if not by then you can go to a elections office like the one at 10th and Morrison and probably vote there.

4. Hi anotherdrew.

I think I'm misreading your post. It sounds to me as if you just filled out a form at the PO asking to have your mail forwarded & got your ballot. But that can't be right unless the PO made a mistake. The PO doesn't forward ballots. Voters who move have to fill out a new registration card. Which only makes sense. It's not the PO's job to figure out if a person is still in the same district & eligible to vote on the same issues.

5. clarification

the PO didn't "forward" the mail, rather the elections department noticed I had moved and dealt with it. The PO informs mail senders of forwarding notices ("address correction information requested"), so that's how the elections folks knew. The ballot arrived with the correct address, a couple months after my new registration card.

Now compare this voter-friendly approach to the bullshit they're pulling in Ohio. Blackwell should do jail time.

6. It is pretty voter friendly, isn't it?

My only problem is that I volunteered to register voters in '02 & '04 & an awful lot of people didn't realize that they needed to fill out a new card. They just assumed that because they had asked the PO to forward their mail then the ballot would come. After the election I talked to quite a few people who didn't understand why they didn't get a ballot. They also didn't realize that if they had already registered & just needed to change their address that they could have gone down to the County Clerk's office anytime & up to 8PM the day of the election & taken care of it.

7. uhhhh? now I'm confused

but I didn't have to fill out a new registration, it was all taken care of automatically. If my move had been closer to the election maybe there wouldn't have been time for it to be corrected by their list maintenance procedures and then I wouldn't have received a ballot and would have had to go to the clerk's office?

8. If you had moved closer to the election time then yes, they

wouldn't have had time to take care of it. I'm not sure if the PO returns the ballots to the clerk's office or just tosses them. Either way, someone could think they s/he is registered to vote, not get a ballot, assume that the ballot is coming any day, then Poof! the election is over & s/he missed it.

Now, the last time I was really active was in '04. The Clerk's office might have changed things. But I know that the PO still doesn't forward ballots.
