Oregon Guard witnessing atrocities in Iraqi prisons

This is NOT going to go over well, not at all. Nice big color pictures on the front of The Whoregonian (Sunday edition), too, of all places. A few weeks ago, in an uncharacteristic fit of humanity, they sent a crew to Iraq to cover the Oregon contingent, and now we're seeing the results.

It might just be worth sending a note to the Oregonian, letting them know we appreciate the beginnings of real coverage from our local daily. The man to thank this time is Mike Francis. Here's his Iraq blog:

It has a contact form. I have no doubt whatsoever that Mr. Francis is going to be the subject of RW hate-riot attacks, so we may as well give him a kudo for bein' there.

I certainly will send a msg of appreciation to the Oregonian, and Ron Wyden, too. Let's hope this goes somewhere and something is done, though I seriously doubt it. As you said, though, it's the beginnings of real coverage, and for that I'm grateful.

3. Blame the Iraqi's

That's what they're going to do. I don't trust a thing Mike Francis writes. Has he reported on anything outside his enclave with the troops? Anything outside of Baghdad? No. It's all "the troops are so brave", rah rah, go troops. Sorry for being pessimistic, but I don't think this is going to go anywhere at all.
