Why is she getting the Police and Fire endorsements from Philadelphia? I swear their reasoning is the Street Administration. Of course, I think Street is God awful, but so is Melissa Brown. I think Schwartz will win, but I can not understand why the Police and Fire would stab other unions in the back with that facist sack of garbage.

Brown has a history of trying to buy elections with her own money. She has put up over $1 million on this race and her last race.

Two years ago she gave over $900,000. http://www.fecinfo.com/cgi-win/x_candpg.exe?DoFn=H8PA13075*2002 This time she has only given about $175,000.

There was only one poll. One thing I must say is I've seen a lot of signs on both sides and Melissa Brown is getting dirtier by the minute. Can't give an accurate picture of the district. I got a mailing today saying how horrible Allyson Schwartz is in opposing parental consent for abortion. WTF???? Ok a girl gets raped by her father. WHo is she supposed to tell. HEr father?? Her mother? Either of them would kill her!!! Melissa Brown is a real facist twit!

She seriously needs to lose her illusions of Congressional grandeur. How many times does she need to lose?

Lost in the 1998 primary, dropped out in 2000 and lost in 2002. Hopefully she'll lose in 2004 as well!

Schwartz is operating on Brown! And Constitution Party candidate McDermott is the assistant helping Allison by siphoning the hardcore anti-abortion votes!

There are plenty of dumbasses that vote on that issue alone. Go McDermott- siphon those votes!

He took the one-issue, anti-abortion vote, enough to throw the election to Hoeffel--too bad Johnnymander Pretzel (Perzel) gerrymandered me out of the district (I lived in the Far Northeast then, when my mom was still alive).

I know. He took out a lot of Democratic areas in Borski's old district. Take a look at the boundaries of the district. That sack of garbage KNEW to include the whiter parts of the Northeast. I love how right below Roosevelt Mall is Bob Brady's district and somehow the upper right corner of Kensington and Allegheny is in PA-13. Perzel knew to get some redneck, right-wing whites in Bridesburg and Port Richmond (no offense to most of the residents of these neighborhoods, you just have a sizable minority that are outright Nazis).

Jesse Jackson got quite a few Democratic primary votes.
BTW, how comes you can't vote Perzel out? IIRC, an angry, broke Frankford Avenue shopkeeper in a wheelchair came within a few votes of dumping him, so if you enlisted a credible candidate and raised money---

I know Port Richmond is a Democratic area, but a conservative one. There are a few Repubs there as well. There are some people there who get ridiculously angry over African Americans moving in their neighborhood. Same goes for other places in the NE as well. If you look at the PA-1/PA-13 boundary, it seemed obvious the R's were seeking for the whiter climes in the NE to include in PA-13. Brief history: You know PA had to take away 2 districts to give to the South. Perzel had the idea of combining Joe Hoeffel (Montgomery Co.) and Bob Borski's (NE Philly) districts. With some clever MapQuest carving, Perzel was hoping Borski would win the Dem primary and get crushed by a moderate Montco R. Borski conceded to Hoeffel and Hoeffel faced Melissa Brownshirt and barely beat her.
As for Perzel, he is running a machine of a campaign. I like Tim Kearney, but he just has the look like he has no shot. It is unfortunate the Dems around here are lazy with the exception of State Rep. Mike McGeehan and Brendan Boyle, who is likely to knock off 20 year incumbent George Kenney. I wish him the best because he has some incredible ideas, is very educated, and works his tail off.

Port Richmond had a Republican state rep when I lived there. I had to register as a Republican so my late husband could get his parking tickets fixed. His campaign ad was his bizarre number of children. Fumo was the state senator, with a local office managed by an antiabortion nut. Actually, now that I think about it, the politics of the whole area was based on Cardinal Krol's whims.
There wasn't much antiblack sentiment per se, and we had a couple of Pakistani families peacefully living on our block, but "PRs" were often mentioned as a scourge.

The Republican State Rep is John Taylor. I actually met him personally. Nice guy and a good neighborhood guy, but he endorsed that witch Melissa Brown for Congress. He was actually a graduate of the same HS as me, North Catholic. When I went there, he frequently visited and tried to "recruit". Funny back then I actually stayed after school to listen to him. I didn't know where I was going in terms of my politics back in the 1990s. Catholic schools have shown a strong GOP bias since the 1980s. The Catholic church in general has lost a lot of credibility with me considering the fact they have basically been selective in their poltiics. They did very little about the child molestation and didn't speak out much against Bush's anti-Catholic (well any Christian faith's) stances on the war in Iraq, his anti-labor stances, or basic social justice.
I will admit this... I glanced at the GOP for a bit because the Dem controlled city is poorly managed. I also voted Katz in 2003. However, I am back with my party for this election.

you think the democratic party is the philadelphia democratic party-philly is poorly run and certainly I understand the Katz vote but the GOP is now really radical-as a state party it is turning into the party of rich snobs like Brown. Castor, Santorum and Pappert. This group hates Spector because he represents the moderate camp. That camp is near dead in the GOP. Its the evil rich class which would sell our Irish Heritage out to the Bob Jones loving crowd-scary times if the GOP gets the Commonwealth

I can separate the Democratic party in Philadelphia from the Democratic party nationally. There is a difference. Unfortunately there are people that want the GOP to "hang around" as a counterbalacne to John Street. Unfortunately that means bringing in the likes of that snake John Perzel who wants everything for himself. It does bother me that there are Irish Catholics like myself who are selling us working people out to the Bob Joneses and the big companies (see Pat Toomey). It has become very hard for me to fathom why working people in Mayfair are showing strong support for Melissa Brown. She does not represent our interests and people there need to wake the hell up. I knwo a lot of people there and it's a good section, but their blind support for Republicans is sickening.

It picked up a significant number of Republican voters, making it all the more dificult for him to lose.
