anyone from Little Compton? discovered my ex's family were first settlers

that's where I was born and raised (until 15), then I lived in a wide assortment of places for 15 years. Then I had a kid and decided that there was no better place I could think of to raise him. Been back here ever since then. My mum's family has been here since 1840, prior to then, they were in Newport since 1638. ("the finest in inbreeding, I assure you.")

Might know your X's family. Maybe not. It's a small town, but I don't socialize a whole lot here in "happy couple land."

Once a line goes back to an early settler, you get linked to other early settlers.

From descendants of E Alden and W Peabody, links to Briggs, Church, Warren and other families.

I had never heard of Little Compton until doing genealogy.

It's a semi-well kept secret. That's why it was so ironic to see an early thread in this state's forum dedicated to an inquiry regarding this dinky, though most beauteous seaside berg.

Priscilla Alden (allegedly conceived on the Mayflower) was reputed to be the first white women born on this continent and she relocated and is buried here. Though there are endless and mostly unresolvable arguments with the historians from Jamestown regarding that specific qualification.

Brigg's Beach is still in existance, though is now owned by a descendant with a different married surname. They are currently wrestling with a rather large (20 ton) and very discomposed beached whale with which the DEM and Coast Guard can't be bothered.

Benjamin Church was a Colonial leader who signed a peace treaty with the native's matriarchal leader (Awashonks) who's tribe refused to fight and ended up decimated by "white man's disease."

The Warrens are still around.
