Bob Tuke and Wes Clark to appear in Nashville together
It is my great honor and privilege to announce in this first week of the general election that General Wesley Clark is coming to Nashville to highlight a fundraiser for our campaign, which will be at the Acorn Restaurant off West End Avenue at 114 28th Avenue North beginning at 5:30PM on Thursday, Aug. 14. What a great kickoff!
General Clark and I have struck up a friendship over the past couple of years as he has visited Tennessee and as he has broadcast his important messages regarding our nation’s foreign policy over his WesPAC website. He already has helped me raise funds on his website, and we have shared our commitment to our troops and our veterans with the electorate.
For me, it is very gratifying to begin the general election campaign with my favorite General. He symbolizes the essential patriotism of constructive criticism of Bush’s Iraq and Afghanistan policies gone awry with the positive call for greater attention to be paid to our warriors and our veterans. General Clark and I share concerns for both, no doubt arising from our respective services in combat in Vietnam and his remarkable service in the Army thereafter, culminating in his commands as United States Southern Command, United States European Command, and Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO, during which he commanded Operation Allied Force in the Kosovo War.
General Clark and I believe our veterans deserve a fully funded GI Bill that rewards our war veterans with the opportunity to attend college and receive additional technical or professional training, something Lamar voted against. We also believe the United States Veterans Administration should be fully funded and fully staffed, something else Lamar has voted against repeatedly.
General Clark and many other retired Generals of the Army and Marines support my position that our military is being misused in Iraq and is stretched too thin in Afghanistan. We need to listen to these tested military leaders as we formulate our foreign and military policies.
