| Dem Convention was great! Fave wkshop: Grassroots planning |
|
I also particularly enjoyed Dennis Kucinich's speech this morning. Concise, logical, and spoken with passion. Also enjoyed the Killer D's processional.

But he certainly dished out a lot of red meat in that speech!

| 2. That was my fave workshop too!! |
|
The room was CRAMMED with people, and I hope the party leadership gets the hint: in many counties, there is NO ORGANIZATION AT ALL!!!!
My county chair didn't organize the precinct conventions & had to be pressured into holding the county one because he wanted to fill delegate slots with all of his cronies. And in the end, did he or his folks show up? Um, NO!!!
So I, like many other people I met from around the state, are going to do this OURSELVES if we have to, because we must organize from the block level on up & in some counties, we are going to have to go house by house!
And yes, I agree, Kucinich gave a great, inspiring speech yesterday!

| 3. Question on the voter reg- is the Green form that the Dallas guy showed |
|
actually referring to the registration booklet? In other words, instead of having the person send in the form, if you're a registrar, you look at their licence right then and there and give them the receipt from the book? Do they still have to fill out the white form as well, too? Or is the green form in lieu of having to do the white form?
I called my local county elector about the green form and she had no clue what I was talking about, but I assume it means the registrar book.

| 4. In Travis County we know nothing of these green forms |
|
We have them fill out the white form and attach our copy of the receipt to it and turn that in to the county.

| 5. But doing that avoids them having to return a xeroxed DL, yes? |
|
In other words, green form or not (wherever that came from???) the advantage of being a deputized registrar is that you can sign up people on the spot and YOU look at their licence to make sure they're from the county? So that they don't have to run to kinkos when they go home?

| 6. That's how it works here |
|
By showing you, the duly sworn deputy voter registrar their ID, they have verified their residence and all that good stuff so no xeroxed copy is necessary. I have also been told that Travis County will probably ask for ID from new voters when they vote in November anyway.
In addition to new voters not having to xerox their ID, the other advantage of being a deputy registrar is that you're not relying on them to remember to mail the form in, you're delivering it for them.

| 8. Figured it out-what threw me off was the green form |
|
in our county the receipt book is a different shape and color, so apparently each county can make up their own receipt books; ie, not a standard form from the TX elections board. Am deputized now, only took a few mins!
Also am having them send through email an excel dump of the registered users.

| 7. Yes Dennis was so passionate |

I loved him, he really got the crowd pumped. My favorite workshop was the grassroots organizing (DFA) workshop but I missed many of them with time conflicts and getting in late on Friday.
