Last night was his first gig as precinct/caucus chair. Only a few people showed up and they were very experienced. They had all been to state and national conventions numerous times.
Derby was pretty nervous and excited, so as he ran the meeting in a structured way, they were all pretty casual about it. I think he was kind of down about that.
Also, one of his resolutions was tabled.
Give Derby some love folks. He needs the encouragement.

I was only trying to dot the i's and cross the t's. And yes, I was a little nervous, seeing that I wasn't aware I'd be in charge of the show last night.
But I got some experienced and patient assistance along the way, so that helped.

2. Derby I'm sending you a million gigabytes of love your way

Check you mailbox. You did the right thing, you took that first step, and got elected. You're in the fight for real now. I know you'll whip that precinct into shape, with a lot of love of course.
Congratulations. :grouphug:

4. I've noticed precinct conventions can be rather casual

so don't sweat it. The other conventions WILL follow Robert's Rules. Just the fact the derby was willing to step up to the plate and get the convention rolling speaks volumes. And the fact that you have convention veterans tells me you have a mature dem base there. You're not starting from scratch. And tabled resolution? Bah, just democracy in action.
Keep up the good work!!

5. Hey Derby - don't get discouraged.

I did my first gig last night too - 3 other people showed and all they wanted to do was sign the form and go home. Even though I thought they were more experienced than me, they didn't know about resolutions. I persuaded them to stay and go over mine. I think they thought I was odd, but that's fine with me. :hi:

How could they not know about resolutions? If delegates are the meat of any precinct convention, resolutions are the taters! A well-balanced convention diet, I tell ya what.
But we have three great resolutions going to the 16th, so that's all fine and dandy with me. Looking forward to the next two years!

they thought resolutions came in at the county level. Go figure. Anyway - good you've got 3 resolutions going - we sent in 4 resolutions - voting reform (paper ballots), repeal of the "no child left behind act", moratorium on the death penalty and repeal of the patriot act.
Us newbies rock! :toast:

Repeal of the USA PATRIOT Act was the first resolution I ever submitted. I didn't even know you could submit resolutions at my first ever precinct convention, so I hurriedly scribbled it down on some paper provided to me by the Convention Secretary, and it went to Senatorial. That's where I lost track - hopefully it made it up to State.

I'm doing better today. Really.
I'm in a position where I can mobilize local Democrats and possibly do some good for the party on the local level. That's got to count for something!

Everytime I see your posts I think of your rolling billboard belt buckle that I first saw at DemocracyFest.
Keep on keeping on.

Maybe I should dig that belt out of the closet again for the State Convention? I dunno. But the Texas flag shirt is definitely coming.
Good on ya, D! Thanks for the support.

We met, we introduced ourselves, we signed the sheet, we only came up with one resolution which is "impeach the bastard" and we adjourned. See you at the county convention.
However, you have my respect and admiration for even taking it on, Derby!

It was me and two other guys. Took us about 45 minutes all told. It was VERY casual, but we met all the requirements. It shouldn't resemble the British Parliament, for crying out loud.
