I thought Republicans were supposed to be more "patriotic" than Democrats, according to Republican talking points.

Goodhair wouldn't give you the time of day. He's starting to make a couple of other governors look intelligent. As far as seceding goes, that was settled in April of 1865-didn't work out too well for TX among other states.

6. 1845 versus 1865...

There actually may be some basis to the claim of right to secede - it has to do with proposed treaties with Mexico with Texas remaining the nation of Texas and with the United States with Texas becoming the state of Texas. Not that Perry has a copy of the treaty. If he did, we would already be the Republic of Texas. The issue as I recall was brought up years ago by one of the secessionist groups. No one made the distinction between 1845 and 1865 although I believe Texas seceded in 1861. Dallas of course led the way. As it still does. Ignorance in Texas always seems to override intelligence. At least among the Republicans. Although I think they were Democrats in 1845. At one time the Democrats were the conservatives in Texas. Some just became Republicans because the Republicans had become more conservative. Particularly after the Civil Rights Act. We get a little fuzzy around the edges in Texas because we are a little fuzzy around the edges.

"We actually fought a war over this issue, and there is no possibility whatsoever that the United States or any court would recognize a "right" to secede," Levinson wrote in an e-mail.

The 1845 resolution does allow for the Texas to divide itself into five new states, and it doesn’t specify whether that would require Congressional approval, but that is very different from secession, Levinson said.
