1. Schieffer quitting governor’s race, will back Bill White
Postcards from the Lege blog AAS 11/23/09
Schieffer quitting governor’s race, will back Bill White (updated)

Democrat Tom Schieffer will announce today that he is dropping out of the governor’s race, ending a campaign that has struggled to overcome Democratic skepticism of Schieffer’s close ties to former President George W. Bush.

Schieffer, pictured at right, will announce at 3 p.m. that he is dropping out of the race. He will also announce that he is endorsing Houston Mayor Bill White if White, as is now expected, jumps into the governor’s race.

Schieffer and his campaign co-chairman, Lyndon Olson, met with White on Sunday.

White has repeatedly said he’s not running for governor, but a Democratic source said a number of people have stepped up their efforts to persuade White to run for governor.

My reaction:
:wow:

2. BOR thread - BREAKING: Bill White to Run for Governor
BOR Diary 11/23/09
BREAKING: Bill White to Run for Governor

The rumors have been swirling that Tom Schieffer's withdraw from the Democratic gubernatorial race was an indication Houston Mayor Bill White will run for a 2010 statewide office.

Multiple sources, a Houston Chronicle story and a conference call later, and Texas Democrats have confirmation. Bill White is running for Governor.

According to close friends, on a conference call with House Democrats, Tom Schieffer said he will not run for office and will be supporting Bill White. White will have an official statement at 3pm.

This move will put White as an immediate front runner in the race and leaves John Sharp as the sole Democrat in the U.S. Senate race.

3. wow.
Well, it simplifies the senate race but complicates the Governor's race. I like Bill White but I'm still leaning toward Gilbert for Governor.

15. There is no Senate race
KBH isn't resigning and she won't beat Goodhair in the primary. Her seat next comes up in 2012.

8. I guess he got tired of being told
"Sorry, I'm not voting for a Bush kisser."

Because had he won the nomination, there is no way in HELL I would have voted for him.

I'm still supporting Hank, but am glad this idiot DINO is off the ballot.

10. LOL
The place where I work hosted Schieffer. I asked that they host Hank. I was told that the firm didn't "believe that Gilbert was a viable candidate."

I just love this.

9. I like Bill, but I LUV Hank
I would really like to see White in Washington and Hank in our governor's mansion. If the Texas Dems are smart, that's what they will advocate.

17. I don't have a lot of hope that the Dems will play it that smart
Yes, a savvy player like White in Washington and Hank in the governor's mansion getting that effing TXDot under control. Two Dems in high places. That would be a good thing.
