CPS’ partner told mayor of higher price
Source: San Antonio Express-News

CPS Energy’s partner in the nuclear deal quietly tipped off Mayor Julián Castro in late October that the project could be significantly more expensive than the utility’s public pronouncements.

NRG Energy said last week it did so to try to limit the damage it feared could occur to the nuclear project when a higher estimate came out at an analysts’ meeting in November.

By then, the City Council already would have voted to spend $400 million on a deal that could cost billions more than it was told.

The leak, the source of which has remained secret until now, touched off a cascade of events that damaged the credibility of the utility, led to high-level executive resignations at CPS Energy and heavy pressure on two trustees to resign and put the nuclear deal on life support.

1. TheTexas deregulated energy market means we enjoy the...
highest electricity rates in the country and they want to add to that for decades while they build Nuclear power.

2. How long will we continue to subsidize an unworkable nuclear industry
and allow them to move their unthinkable waste around the country like some vast shell game?

Look, if the bastards are that well-connected, just cut 'em a check for doing nothing. We'd be far better off.

Dishonest fucking parasites.

3. Perfect storm
I hope the cover up on the cost increase alone, is enough to kill this project. But there are even bigger reasons to kill the nuke project. One huge one is the need for water. We can not support our water resources being squandered by nuclear energy. Texas has moved to severe drought conditions and building anything that requires huge amounts of water resources is insane.

CPS asks court to 'clarify' nuclear pact
CPS Energy wants a court in Bexar County to clarify the utility's rights if it chooses to pull out of the crumbling nuclear deal.

CPS filed a petition late Sunday with state District Court in Bexar County that “specifically requests defining the liability of both parties should either decide to withdraw from the project,” utility officials said in a written statement.

(snip)

CPS acting General Manager Jelynne LeBlanc-Burley said the court filing does not mean that CPS will definitely terminate its interest in the nuclear deal.

Hope this is a sign that the deal will crumble.
