Perry foe alleges donation sought for appointment

AUSTIN, Texas — When Corpus Christi Judge Rose Vela was looking for an appointment to the Texas Supreme Court, her husband turned to a longtime friend and ally of Gov. Rick Perry — Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos.

But Filemon "Fil" Vela said he was dismayed by what Cascos told him: He needed to publicly disavow his support of Perry's rival Kay Bailey Hutchison, get on the Perry re-election bandwagon, and give the governor some campaign money in order for his wife to even be considered for the appointment.

1. That one doesn't surprise me at all

It's always been about some kind of quid pro quo with Perry. Everything is for sale and he gets his piece of the pie somehow. It may all be "technically legal" but if the Feds were paying attention to corruption in Texas he would probably be up there in scandals just like the best of them.
