They will be making sure enough bilingual polling workers are at each locationU.S. Department of Justice representatives will monitor Tuesday's primary elections in Williamson County to ensure polling locations comply with federal requirements relating to bilingual voters, department officials said.
Williamson County Elections Administrator Rick Barron said an attorney with the department told him Thursday that the monitors will visit county polling locations.
Four other Texas counties — Fort Bend, Galveston, Gonzales and Wilson — will also be monitored, the department said in a statement.
"They're going to fan out and visit polling places all day on Tuesday," Barron said.
Barron said the attorney, Sabatino Leo , with the department's civil rights division, asked to meet Monday with him and his staff to discuss more details.
Leo asked Barron to provide copies of the county election office's bilingual material, a list of poll workers that highlights which ones are bilingual and a list of polling locations, Barron said.
