Hank Gilbert wins!
Congratulations to Hank Gilbert! :toast: I don't have a link yet but saw it reported on the local news here in Austin.

Postcards from the Lege blog AAS 3/2/10
Kinky Friedman appears likely to lose
"The voters of the state realized who’s qualified for this race and who’s not," said Gilbert. "We’re more qualified on the issues and the industry."

Gilbert said he will add field inspectors to protect the food supply; improve inspections of weights and measures at gasoline stations; promote Texas agricultural products; and bring bioenergy jobs to the state.

1. Yeah, the primaries turned out pretty good for us.
I'm sad Fidel Acevedo lost, but that's only because I used to know him. :)

Kinky lost for two reasons. One, he just doesn't look qualified, even if he has become better prepared lately. And two, Democrats are still pissed about his ego run for governor last time. I don't know if Bell could have won if he wasn't there, but Kinky's naivite helped Perry, and Democrats haven't gotten over that. Me, at least. :)

3. I am so happy about that!
Sadly, not so happy about the low Democratic turnout in my area. The numbers are almost back down to there they were during the Dubya years. Hopefully, things will get fired up come the general.

4. Message from Hank this morning

Last night, voters in the Texas Democratic Primary made me their nominee for Commissioner of Agriculture. I'm humbled by their support and excited by the opportunity. I look forward to working with the other nominees on the Democratic ticket, from the county level up to my fellow statewide candidates, to restore real leadership to every level of government in Texas. This is a time when bold ideas and common sense solutions are desperately needed. I'm pleased to be part of the team that Texans will choose in November to restore prosperity and a strong economy to our state.

The office for which I've been nominated is one of the most important in state government. It is tasked with not only promoting Texas Agriculture, our second largest industry, but also with protecting consumers. From farm to table, we must wrestle our food chain back from Corporate Ag. It's absolutely critical to both consumers and producers in this state. I am excited to get to talk to folks across Texas about these issues.

Todd Staples and the rest of the GOP ticket are more vulnerable than they seem to realize. For years they have failed our farmers, ranchers and the families that rely on them. I look forward to rebuilding an office that has been severely diminished thanks to 20 years of Republican inaction.

Thank you to all my friends and supporters. Now it's time to fight for the future of our children and our state!

Sincerely yours,

Hank Gilbert

Let's go Hank!

5. I want to see Jim Hightower support Hank
He needs to do it. He's got a lot of fences to mend.
