Texas Republican Gohmert: Demons Have Invaded The Capital
File under news of the seriously insane.

Huffington Post 3/16/10
Texas Republican Gohmert: Demons Have Invaded The Capital

Speaking shortly after he riled up a crowd at Tuesday's Tea Party protest, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) declared that "demons" - yes, demons - have invaded the capital (and likely the souls of Democrats), forcing lawmakers to mislead the public about the content of the health care bill.

"Well it would take a demon to be this dishonest about a bill," the Texas Republican told the Huffington Post. "If they would just read the bill, they would see what they are saying is dishonest."

(snip)
"I brought an abortion to show you today," he said, hosting a copy of the health care bill in his right hand. The crowd responded with a chant of "Abort the bill!"

And then, out of nowhere, Gohmert began spreading the word that underworld spirits were lurking around the Capitol building behind him.

"There's a whole lot of demon going on," he said. "There are a lot of demons around here apparently."

Gohmert needs to be in a mental hospital.

"Gohmert, who is about three-fourths of a half wit, didn’t stop at that."

5. +10!
“Thelma, that’s just creepy. Talk like that is just creepy,” Juanita says with more than her usual amount of exasperation at Thelma. “I’m at the end of my tether with these crazy fellas. It’s just health care, Thelma. It ain’t a Jeeesuh-burnin.”

“Well, then how do you explain the demons?” Thelma asks smartly.

“Thelma, there ain’t no demons. Louie is drunk. He doesn’t have enough blood in his alcohol system. Listen to me, Girl. Louie Gohmert ain’t going to Heaven. There’s a lot of spokes missing in his wheel and he’s acting the fool to get on the nightly news.”

:toast: to Juanita!

Excellent!

JJ, that would be an empty bottle of cheap, rot-gut whiskey I’m sure. This idgit, together with the Texas School Board, is giving Texas a really bad name. According to the comments on HuffPo, Guv Goodhair wouldn’t have to secede Texas, the other states will give us back to Mexico. This goes way beyond jes good ole boys having fun.

ROFLMAO

7. We get if from all sides
I love that we can still laugh at these things, but it's not funny when the whole country is laughing at us and not with us. :(

It's Like They're Proud Of Being Ignorant
(snip)
From the department of "This Would Be Funny If It Weren't So Sad," the Texas conservatives have launched an attack on Thomas Jefferson:

Cynthia Dunbar, a lawyer from Richmond who is a strict constitutionalist and thinks the nation was founded on Christian beliefs, managed to cut Thomas Jefferson from a list of figures whose writings inspired revolutions in the late 18th century and 19th century, replacing him with St. Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and William Blackstone. (Jefferson is not well liked among conservatives on the board because he coined the term "separation between church and state.")

"The Enlightenment was not the only philosophy on which these revolutions were based," Ms. Dunbar said.

This is one of those "Why I'm Not A Conservative" moments. It's not that the Left doesn't have its extremes, but the honest truth is that I find, say, marching against the War In Afghanistan right after 9/11 much more tolerable than attempting to erase Hispanics from history, or hating Thomas Jefferson. Or being racist.
