Perry, UT received large donations from Triton CEO
Fraud case could lead to request that money be turned over.

On Sept. 25, 2008, Triton Financial CEO Kurt Barton made his largest-ever political contribution, according to Texas Ethics Commission records: a $33,000 donation to Gov. Rick Perry. Barely three weeks later, Perry stood next to Barton and former professional football player Ty Detmer, at the time a Triton executive, at an Austin news conference.

"The good people" of Triton, Perry announced, would be the new title sponsors of the Champions Tour's Austin golf tournament, which, he noted, was a boon for the local economy and sports fans. The governor praised as "a leader (and) a visionary" Barton, who now faces a federal lawsuit accusing him and his company of securities fraud.

Perry's office has declined to provide details of his involvement in lining up Barton and Triton to sponsor the golf tournament or any more information about Perry's contact with the Triton founder. Barton's attorney, Joe Turner, did not return calls.

But the 18-month-old donation to the governor and several other political and charitable contributions Barton and Triton made in recent years — including $20,000 to a state appellate judge and $250,000 to the University of Texas to qualify for a luxury box at football games — could figure into the legal proceedings now surrounding Triton.

That's because donations made by people found to have engaged in certain financial schemes — such as Barton has been accused of — can legally be considered "fraudulent conveyances" of money that should be returned to investors. Courts have determined that such funds were never rightfully theirs to give away.

No surprise that Perry is tainted by corrupt money. He's so corrupt himself it makes no difference to him. Barton and Triton appear to have only backed Republican sell outs.
