So when can we finally fix the Austin gerrymandering issue?

It's census time once again and, as an Austinite, I can't help but wonder when we can fix the voting districts in this area. I've moved within the city 3 times since we were shattered into tiny pieces, and with each move, I ended up in a completely different district. One move was literally less than 3 miles by the way. It's sick.

Is fixing this even possible in the near future?

1. The legislature will draw a new map in 2011

2. Not going to happen as long as the Rs control the Texas State House and Senate

We have a chance at controlling the House and taking back the Governor's mansion, but we have to act this fall. Whoever wins the Texas House and Governor's race is going to shape the process in 2011.

So make sure you help with some of those House districts even if they aren't your own. Our candidates need money as well as foot soldiers.

There are competitive House races even around central Texas -HD47 where Valinda Bolton is fighting to keep her seat, HD 52 where Diana Maldonado is fighting to keep her seat as well.

There are other districts around the state we could flip from R to D like HD105 where Loretta Haldenwang is running against incumbent Linda Harper-Brown (R) who barely won that district last cycle by under 20 votes in a recount.

Basically, the answer is fight like hell in November because the future of Texas depends on it.

Since the last Census I've been in three different districts... and I haven't moved!

2001: after regular redistricting, the old 10th CD (Lloyd Doggett)

2004: after DeLay/Perry/Craddick's re-redistricting, CD 21 (Lamar:puke:Smith)

2006: after court-ordered re-re-redistricting, CD 25 (Doggett again)

4. Me too but at least we got Lloyd back as our Congressman

No thanks to the Rs of course. SCOTUS forced them to redraw the districts thanks to MALDEF's successful lawsuit.

Wish all of Austin was Lloyd's district like it used to be.

The Rs really hate Austin and they hate Lloyd too. :(

But despite all their petty targeting and gerrymandering his district, Lloyd continues to win - while Tom DeLay is a washed up has-been who shook his ugly butt on a reality TV show. Ha ha ha ha :rofl:
