For a start, these people have no idea what Computer Science *is*.
Friendswood is not scrapping all its high school computer sciences classes as widely reported. There will still be seven teachers continuing with computer classes such as Webmastering and Business Computer Information System, better known as BCIS.
Huh??????
http://www.ultimateclearlake.com/2010/04/friendswood-schoolsFrom a comment to the article:
Computer Science is a technology application classes that is software programming. A computer scientist creates applications and operating systems. Whereas, the computer classes you mentioned: Webmastering and BCIS is a CATE class that teaches how to use poplular applications to the masses. They are not the same and Friendswood is indeed scrapping all of their computer science classes.
This is sad because the Friendswood computer science classes are regarded as one of the finest places to recieve computer science training. Most of their students recieve a 4 or 5 on the AP test, many are recruited into the Turring program at the University of Texas, and the Friendswood UIL computer science team is considered one of the best teams in Texas having won two state 4A titles in the last 7 years and are considered to be the favorites to win their third title.
