Houston becoming more progressive..
Over the last few weeks, Parker banned discrimination against transgender workers in city government.

The council says Parker has essentially opened up the women’s restroom to cross dressing men.

You would have thought this would have happened in Austin first. Houston FTW!!

1. Hey we're pretty progressive in Austin
But frankly I don't know where our anti-discrimination policies stand on this one.

2. After having been here for 1.5 years now I have to say it is far
more progressive than where I came from (SE Michigan/Detroit area). Houston is incredibly progressive, the neighborhood I live in is true blue and I look forward to turning the rest of the state blue. It has been an eye opener.

3. I came here 25 years ago from NW Ohio (Toledo area)
and I was surprised to find Houston already had a progressive female mayor, Kathy Whitmire. It was a real pleasure to see Kathy come back from her new home in Hawaii, to campaign long and hard for Annise, who I came to know just a couple of years after I moved here.

I'm no longer surprised, but I get darned impatient with some of the rest Texas, still hope is there.

4. It makes me smile when family/friends come down with (somewhat) smug
ideas about how I live in the bible belt/am in a red area/am somehow living next door to the Bush's. The look on their faces is priceless. Although some of them still think they live in "progressive" areas of MI.

6. Here is a link to the 2008 Platform of the TX Democratic Party
http://www.txdemocrats.org/issues/platform/

Just like Democrats in every state, our platform is about the PEOPLE, that is what makes us Democrats and why the Democratic Party is ALWAYS the party of the future.
